Countries

Eight countries. Countless opportunities for cycling adventures.

If you’re a fan of traveling by bicycle, then you really can’t go wrong with traveling the Balkans on the Trans Dinarica cycle route, the first route to connect all eight countries of the Western Balkans: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia. We don’t say this just because we’ve spent thousands of hours studying, planning, riding, and laying out the cycle route. We say it because as dedicated cyclists, who have pedaled around the world, we believe the breadth of what this region offers — both geographically and culturally — is unparalleled.

A large part of this unparalleled experience is because there are eight diverse countries linked by one route. All of them have beautiful mountains. The Trans Dinarica cycling trail, which covers around 5,000 kilometers over around 100 stages, includes the Julian Alps, the Dinaric Alps, and the Šar (Sharr) Mountains. The Adriatic Sea washes against the shores of four of the countries. Each has a bevy of clear lakes and rivers surrounded by forests and villages. And this is without even mentioning the quality of the cycling found here.

Adventure travel, and especially biking tours, has become the region’s strength. Farm roads, quiet streets, and bike paths crisscross the Western Balkans. With the growing interest, infrastructure — bike-friendly accommodations, restaurants, bike shops, and experienced tour operators — is sprouting across the cycle route, making it easier than ever to turn off your worries, turn on your Trans Dinarica GPS navigation, and let the cycling experience of a lifetime embrace the adventurer in you.

Regardless of the country, or countries, you choose on your Trans Dinarica journey, ride with the confidence that big adventure, hospitality, and discovery await you.
